Work experience is an extremely valuable part of a students time in KS4. As students start to approach leaving school and entering the world of work, there is no better way to prepare them than providing them with the opportunity to experience what life outside of education looks like.
Work experience takes place for all students in the summer terms of year 8 and year 10. In year 8, students undertake their work experience through a ‘take your child to work day’ where they have the opportunity to accompany parents/carers to work for a day. Any students who are not able to access this experience will be able to attend a trip led by the school to a local business so that they still have the opportunity to see what a working environment is like. This experience in year 8 is further backed up by various in-person and virtual encounters and trips in KS3 that enable students to have meaningful encounters with a range of workplaces.
In year 10 student’s progress to undertaking a weeklong work experience placement in an industry of their own choice. Students must source their own work experience placements and make contact with employers to secure their places. Once students have found a placement, they must log their placement on Unifrog which enables all necessary information to be gathered and checked by students, employers, parents/carers and the schools careers lead. For further information or any queries relating to work experience in year 10, please contact Miss Webber and see the Information Evening slides below. Documents to support students in finding and submitting their work experience placements can also be found below.
