Curriculum

Staff at Downham Market Academy own their curriculum. Building on the Primary School curriculum and drawing on expertise from across our Trust, departments craft stimulating, challenging and engaging learning experiences for their students.

The vision for our curriculum is to offer all our students a broad and balanced range of subjects at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4; deliver powerful substantive disciplinary knowledge and develop intellectual curiosity and a love of learning among students.

Over our three year Key Stage 3 programme, students learn a full complement of the core subjects, EBacc options and the Arts, including music and drama. Languages are also well represented, with all students studying a combination of Latin, French and Spanish.  Alongside this, students are taught Religious Studies and Ethics, PE and Technology subjects such as cooking, resistant materials, graphics, textiles and engineering.

At Key Stage 4 students follow a pathway appropriate to their interests and ambitions, once again they can expand their choice of subjects; with Ancient History, Latin and Astronomy, recently joining our model.

Fundamentally our curriculum equips students with the cultural capital, knowledge and passion for education, that they need to feel empowered and become great citizens of the world, as well as pursuing their future goals.
